It arrived. It took 2 long months of waiting - but it arrived. I was enlightened, and entertained. I was amused, and embarrassed. And even though Annie Serteich made fun of people like me (Bloggers, and nerds) I feel great.
Why? My copy of ... [Read More]

Wow, first in. Shouldn't you black out your address?

Not a bad idea Mark. I was more concerned about the poor grammar in my letter. Oh well. Hopefully the Leukemia/Lymphoma society will understand. :)

I'm sure they will. I forgot to say well done on the fundraising!

Who cares about poor grammer when you are giving them over 2 grand? :)
Love the letter - I know I keep saying it, but THANK YOU for putting this together and for doing all that you did/do. I so enjoyed the DVD that I am thinking you could make this an annual gig...maybe....hopefully....pretty please?

Thanks for sending the DVD - it was great (I controlled myself and did NOT type hawesome) and also for taking the time to handle the donation coordination along with your busy schedule.

Well done all.
Glad to have been responsible for a small portion of the total.

Shane, we really owe you and the rest of the Subject Line Here performers for allowing us all to be a part of such a great cause. Three huzzahs for you guys, no joke.

By the way, you can get a better copy of your letter by first PDFing it. In OS X, you can print to PDF. Then you can process it as a screenshot like you did. The difference is you wouldn't have the wavy spelling checker lines.

Loved the DVD; thanks for putting that together! As someone touched very directly by cancer, like so many of us, every penny helps. Thanks for your time and effort in putting everything together.
Posted by: Kellie | 08/22/2006 at 04:26 PM
That's awesome. You rock for doing all this - you know that, right?
Posted by: Carly | 08/22/2006 at 05:21 PM
I feel terrible. I wanted to purchase one of the DVDs, but my own health problems escalated to the point where it's costing me $650 every three weeks to stop my dang eye from going blind.
When I'm financially stable again, I will make a donation to the fund, gladly. Again, I'm so sorry I said I'd buy one, and then could not.

Hey Shane - we've played at the same table a couple of times at the blogger events.
It's a laudable and noble thing you and your friends have done and you all deserve alot of credit for it.
Not to undermine that sentiment, because I mean it sincerely, but I do want to contrast the spirit of the actions embodied in that letter with your comment on the Israeli-Lebanon war, which you directed us to via a link a few posts back.
The same loving father who dedicates considerable time and effort to help in the cure for cancer (I'm a critical care physician so have done my time on that front) has no problem absolving Israel of responsibility in hitting civilian targets - schools I believe were the example you used - all in the name of getting to Hezbollah. I don't think that opinion means you're swinging to the right - I think it means this complex issue has a lot of good people looking for easy answers that will make for a lot of avoidable coffins.
Now being a muslim I guess I am leaving myself open to being thought of as AntiSemitic or AntiIsraeli. All I can say is, I am not. I think anyone who knows me would back that claim up. I'm a mainstream North American muslim, and believe me there are millions of us around. When it comes to the problems of the middle east, I put my faith in a Peace through Mutual Prosperity/Security angle. Total War as a strategy is just kindling to a fire that's been burning far too long as it is.
Apologies for the long comment, but I had to call you on falling prey to a tough-heartedness that seems to have become the norm but just doesn't do the world much good.
It's things like that letter that keep a guy like me, trying to raise three kids of my own, optimistic our better instincts will hold the day.

Hey 'lakaris-'
You say in your comment: 'Apologies (Shane) for the long comment, but I had to call you on falling prey to a tough-heartedness that seems to have become the norm but just doesn't do the world much good.'
No, I have to call YOU on falling prey to leaving a really shitty comment on a post that has nothing to do with Shane's political views. Missing the meaning of a post reflecting on a SELFLESS event that he put together is the 'toughheartedness' that I THINK doesn't do the world much good. And to me, softening your comment with 'props' about his letter only convinces me that you don't mean it at all. In fact, it just makes it a little more gross.
'...contrast the spirit of the actions?' Bleh! Super, super gross. Why DID you post your political rant on THIS post instead of the one about that topic? Oh, right. To draw some totally unfounded lame parallel. Right.
But I'm just a dumb asshole. You're the critical care physician.

Well-deserved punch in the arm (nose?) received. Please, excuse my ill manners, Shane. As in poker, timing is everything. Further elucidation at Annie's.
Rare is the comment so odious that it requires two identical ripostes, but these are volatile times indeed.
Belated Happy Birthday, and look forward to seeing you at the virtual felt.

You impress me more and more my friend. I'm proud to know you and even more proud to know that you have people who post things to your site like how to get wavy lines from spell check off of your attachments.
I want a copy of the DVD, where can I purchase one?
